Top 10 of 2018
2018 was the year that brought me so many of my beauty favorites. I wanted to share my top 10 with you. Some of these launched in 2018 but most are products that I found in 2018.
Youth to the People Kale + Superfood Cleanser
Starting with my new favorite face wash. I actually tried cleanser for the first time this past November, but within the last two months of 2018 this has worked its way up to the top of my list. Out of all the cleansers on my sink, my hand naturally goes for the YTTP superfood pump. Both in the morning and night, it gets my skin ready for what’s to come or gently washes off the day. Its cold-pressed antioxidant formula gives to my skin while also removing build up & makeup. The gummy gel textured wash smells like a fresh green juice. Though this face wash lathers it doesn’t strip the skin but instead leaves the skin rejuvenated and freshly cleansed.
Ren Skincare Ready, Steady, Glow Daily AHA Tonic
This was one of my first products that introduced acids into my skincare routine. Glossier’s Solution didn’t work for me so I gave this one a shot. My skin reacted at first and I initially thought this was a no go, but after seeking advice from Emma Hoareau on instagram. She was so helpful and recommended giving my skin time to adjust to the AHA’s and to use the tonic 3 times a week instead of daily. I started using it as she suggested and it’s been one of my favorite resurfacing products since. I continue to use this tonic 3-4 times a week to help keep my skin free of dead skin cells that block pores and cause breakouts. I love this for keeping the skin clear and bright.
A magical elixir created by instagrams favorite potion maker Dena (@leowithcancer). Leo oil soothes, heals and moisturizes the skin. After seeing this all over instagram I finally tried it this summer and I’ve never looked back. A combo of Rosehip, Blue Tansy and Meadowfoam seed oil creates a lovely facial oil that is an experience to use. It’s become one of the main constants in my skincare routine. The smell is intoxicating and just as soothing to the senses as the oil is to the skin.
Gua Sha Tool
Gua Sha is less of product and more of a technique/tool, but I had to include it in this post. This ancient technique has a whole list of benefits for your skin. I got my rose quartz tool from Herbivore Botanicals because I had a giftcard but you can find many shapes and sizes of gua sha tools on amazon and or online. The technique is done by using the tool to gently scrape across your face giving yourself facial massage. It brings more blood circulation to the skin and increases lymph drainage. Doing this every night has turned my skincare routine into a relaxing ritual and I’ve started to see the difference in my face.
Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum
I’m almost finished with my second bottle of serum. This was sent to me around the beginning of the year and I used it everyday. When I finished it, I never purchased it again. I didn’t think it had done much for me. Then later this past summer I received it again in a PR package and fell in love with it all over again. I didn’t realize how effective this silky serum was for my skin. It brightens and evens my complexion while seamlessly blending into the skin.
Summer Friday’s Jetlag Mask
Just like Leo Oil, I was seeing this hyped product everywhere on social media. Me being me, I didn't get it right away, but then this past summer I was watching one of Jayme’s (@thehellajam) Youtube videos about her skincare routine. After hearing what she thought of the Summer Friday’s wonder mask. I wanted to try it myself and it’s been a part of my collection since. I even have a backup waiting in my closet now. This mask does everything it says. All the hype is real. I rarely use this mask as a 10 minute mask, but as a moisturizer, an eye cream and an overnight mask as the last step in my night routine. I also love that this product was formulated with the cleanest ingredients. Whenever my skin feels dull, dry or tired, I grab the pretty blue tube and let it do its thing.
Known as one of Hermione Granger’s favorite products, Fur oil had to make my top 10 of 2018. I’d ogled the gorgeous bottle for quite a while before I actually got a chance to try. This year I finally got my hands on it. I was able to team up with Fur a lot this year, which was one of the highlights of 2018. I wrote a blog post for them, after a mishap with some hair removal cream. Fur oil + their other products saved me. Talk about multi-use; this luxe, all natural oil is for everywhere that skin meets hair. It softens, soothes, moisturizes anywhere and everywhere. I use this on my legs, pubes, armpits, brows. You name it, I’ve probably applied fur oil there.
La Roche- Posay Lipikar Balm
I started using La Roche - Posay’s very loved Lipikar Balm only recently; around the end of November. After using this fantastic balmy cream, it went straight to my favorites list. The thick body + face lotion helps moisturize my skin without being sticky or greasy. Perfect for dry winter weather, I use it anywhere that’s dry and keep it at my bedside for pre - bed time moisturizing. I get really dry patches on my legs and this helps hydrate those areas. I also love this for my face on occasion, as well as my hands.
My love for this Glossier product is never ending. It does everything it claims and I don’t know where my lashes would be without it. I won’t say too much about this since I wrote a detailed blog post on it, you can see why I love it here.
Milk Makeup Flex Concealer
I bought Milk Makeup’s Flex Concealer the first or second day of 2018 after wanting it forever. This light to medium coverage concealer blends into the skin seamlessly and looks great throughout the day. No creasing or cakey-ness. It does great at covering smell blemishes and is perfect for the under eye area. If you love Glossier’s stretch concealer but wish it had a bit more coverage, this is the concealer for you.
So those are the beauty favorites that 2018 brought me. What favorites did 2018 bring you? May 2019 bring even more self care indulgences into our life.
